![]() ![]() Though all of the game can be played in either view, the 3rd person view is more of a gimmick than helpful during RTS gameplay. Some tweaking with the process is needed, but it's nice to allow players the choice of point and click or controlling the hero through the WASD set-up used in most action games. Players will once again have the choice to play the game in standard isometric RTS view or zoom down into a 3rd person perspective to get a more personal view. Any quests or objectives given along the way will be placed into a handy dandy quest log so that nothing is forgotten. From there, a small group will need to wind their way through a mine, killing small groups of enemies, discovering loot (there are thousands of different items for your heroes), and completing small side-quests, in order to make it out to the other side and bring war upon the enemy to save the lost Thane. Upon arrival, players will find that the dwarves can not provide special siege weapons for an attack until the players have found their leader. ![]() One such map centered around the dwarven city of Underhall. In many of the levels, especially those surrounding towns, players will need to take their party of heroes, perhaps with some accompanying soldiers, and do a little dungeon crawling before heading out into full on warfare. The developers have devoted themselves to creating a strong mix between two modes of play. Characters can only pick one new skill for each level and cap out at level 30 so players will need to carefully consider their choices as there are somewhere around 100 skills in all. The skill tree has been streamlined down to two basic sets of skills: magic and martial skills. This RPG system is a large portion of the game and allows players to really get in and customize each of the characters in ability and looks. ![]() Through the tutorial and the rest of the game, that character, along with other heroes who join the cause, will gain experience and levels through the completion of quests. Players will begin the game by setting up their main character hero who will have basically no skills or battle experience at the beginning of the adventure. When all is said and done, all of the races of the land will be drawn into conflict again including the fantasy mainstays of elves, dwarves, humans, orcs, and trolls in a total of nine races placed into four factions. Break out the chain mail undies ladies! It's time for battle. After their culture has been scoured from their own lands by an enemy known as the Shadow, an emissary makes her way into the lands of the Shaikan. Once again, the land is falling under the sway of an evil force bent on wrecking everyone's day and turning an especially baleful eye towards the dark elves. Thus, they can be revived whenever they fall in battle which allows SpellForce 2 to continue the tradition of heroes that are really, really hard to kill during the course of the game. The story has changed pretty considerably since the original SpellForce was released moving the focus away from rune warriors and onto the Shaikan, a magical race of beings that have mixed their blood with powerful dragons.
